Breakfast at the hotel; meet our professional guide at 8:45 am in piazza del risorgimento, and take a tour of the vatican museums and the sistine chapel, admire the gallery, visiting all those main spots you’ve heard about like the gallery of maps, the gallery of tapestries, the borgia apartments. the guide will tell you everything about the raphael rooms and their exceptional frescoes, including the school of athens, and will bring you to the sistine chapel, whose ceiling is one of the cornerstone works of high renaissance art. the tour couldn’t be complete without st. peter’s square the open space which lies before the basilica, redesigned by gian lorenzo bernini and being itself an architectural masterpiece of the baroque age. you’ll admire st. peter’s basilica (outside) that isn’t only the largest church in the world, but that contains several pieces of fine art: think the canopy designed by gian lorenzo bernini or the pietà by michelangelo. lunch on your own and after lunch meet our guide* arco di costantino (from 1st april the new meeting point is located in parco colle oppio - via delle terme di tito, corner of via nicola salvi inside the park) for the most complete tour of the colosse­um, roman forum and palatine hill. access the palatine hill with no line and discover the hill where rome was founded at the beginning. then reach the colosseum and be amazed by this monument that is the symbol of rome in the world. the amphitheater created to entertain ancient roman citizens with bloody shows of gladiators, animals and cruel games, is now one of the most fascinating landmark of the city. then, walk on the original path of ancient rome along the via sacra and see the temples of vesta, antonino and faustina, the ancient basilica julia and aemilia and dream about the glorious past of the roman empire. unforgettable! overnight stay in rome.
